The Gender and Development Unit is a specialized research, program, projects, and policy unit within the Development Studies and Research Institute (DSRI). It is committed to advancing gender equality, integrating gender perspectives into research, policy, and action, and promoting inclusive development in Sudan. The unit operates as a hub for interdisciplinary research, capacity building, and advocacy, ensuring that gender considerations are embedded across all aspects of development planning and implementation.

Mandate and Functions

As a core unit of DSRI, the Women, Gender and Development Unit focuses on:

  • Conducting research on gender-related issues, including economic empowerment, social inclusion, and political participation.
  • Providing policy recommendations and evidence-based solutions to address gender disparities.
  • Offering training and capacity-building programs for institutions, policymakers, and civil society organizations on gender-sensitive development.
